They may be tiny in size but blueberries are big on flavor! Both avocados and blueberries are cholesterol-free, and when blended with a frozen banana they make an excellent smoothie. This low sodium smoothie an excellent source of vitamin c (73% Daily Value), dietary fiber 58% DV, magnesium 55% DV, vitamin k 32% DV, folate 26% DV, vitamin B6 25% and potassium 22% DV. It is also a good source of vitamin B5 (17% DV)), magnesium 15% DV) niacin 13% DV and riboflavin 12%.

1 frozen banana, peeled and cut in chunks 1 ripe, Fresh California Avocado, seeded, peeled and quartered 2 cups fresh Naturipe® berries (use your favorite combinations of blackberries, blueberries, raspberries or strawberries) As needed Ice water Agave or maple syrup, to taste
  1. Place frozen banana chunks, berries, and avocado in a blender and puree until smooth, adding a 1/4 cup of ice water at a time as needed to achieve desired consistency.
  2. Taste, and if desired sweeten with agave or maple syrup. Pour into smoothie glasses, discarding any berry seeds at bottom of blender.

Tip: Freeze the banana the day before you prepare these tasty smoothies.

Serving Suggestion: Garnish with fresh mint sprigs and additional berries if desired. As a variation, omit ice water and serve as a frozen dessert. Just grab some spoons and dig in!

 

*Large avocados are recommended for this recipe. A large avocado averages about 8 ounces. If using smaller or larger size avocados adjust the quantity accordingly.
