A Slam-Dunk Guacamole Bracket

It’s that time of year again – March – full of college basketball madness. Since I can’t claim any kind of sports expertise, I thought I’d share my winning guacamole bracket instead.

Like the best bracket decisions, I considered stats (like re-pins on Pinterest), style (I've heard uniform colors often persuade some avocado fans) and line-up (of ingredients, of course) to come up with a slam-dunk worthy list of guacamole recipes.

Here are my Elite Eight (in no particular order):

Easy Garden Guacamole, from a-kitchen-addition.com.

This avocado recipe is full of fresh produce! If you’re looking for a guacamole that isn’t too spicy, this just might be the guacamole for you.

Pink Grapefruit Guacamole, on CaliforniaAvocado.com

I love new and exciting guacamole recipe ideas and in this Pink Grapefruit Guac no one expects the grapefruit tang. If you haven’t had a tangy guacamole, with mango or citrus, this is definitely a great one to try. This is definitely one of those 'add as much as you want' recipes – so go easy on the grapefruit if you’re unsure about the recommended quantity.

The Best Guacamole You Will Ever Make, from CraftyChelsea.com

I just stumbled across this recipe on Pinterest after noticing it had over 1,000 re-pins but I can’t wait to make it! If you are hung up on the cilantro – don’t be! Cilantro adds great flavor and nice aroma to guacamole.

Mango & Cilantro Guacamole from TwoPeasandtheirPod.com

If you’re a mango-lover, no doubt your mouth is watering right now. That, or you are saying to yourself “Mango?! Avocado?!” Believe it or not, mango actually brings out a sweetness that goes perfect with the saltiness of corn chips. Must try!

Clean Eating Chips & Guacamole, from TheGraciousPantry.com

This is a basic guacamole plus a bonus recipe to make your own zesty chips. Nothing wrong with simple guacamole –  as long as you use the best quality ingredients!

Best Guacamole Ever, from CaliforniaAvocado.com

I had to include this guacamole because it is one of our most popular recipes on CaliforniaAvocado.com. It came to us from our Best Guacamole Contest in 2010. I distinctly remember reading the title before diving in and thinking “Best Guacamole Ever? We’ll see about that.” Well, I still don’t know if this is the best guac you can get, but it has become my go-to recipe. I highly recommend it.

Guacamole, from ClosetCooking.com

This recipe has a kick to it with jalapeno peppers and cumin. Cumin is one of those ingredients that people either love or hate in guacamole. Personally, I think it adds a nice smoky flavor that you just can’t get anywhere else. A little goes a long way, so if you are unsure about it, add a little and taste. Add a little more and taste – stop when you are happy!

Grilled Pineapple Guacamole, from theComfortofCooking.com

This recipe has me dreaming of summer – in March! I like to grill just about everything I can, so when I spotted this recipe I knew it was one I had to try. I like both smooth and chunky guacamoles and this is one you definitely don’t want to over-mash.
