6 Ways to Bake with Avocados

Baking-with-Avocados

In my job I hear a lot of praise for the quality, taste and versatility of California Avocados – and I, of course, whole heartedly agree. One of the things people are most fascinated by is the idea of baking with avocados, but I find most are hesitant to try it. Today, I wanted to share how avocados can replace ingredients like butter or oil in your favorite baked goods. With the holidays in full swing, you’re probably planning to whip up some baked goodies, so it’s the perfect time to substitute avocado in place of traditional baking ingredients such as butter or shortening to reduce your intake of saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium and calories.

Bonnie Taub-Dix, a registered dietitian we’ve worked with over the last few years, shares how baking is a tradition in her family.

If you’re ready to conquer your “fear” of baking with avocados, try swapping out the butter in your next baking recipe for avocado, typically a 1:1 ratio will work perfectly. So for example, replace 1 cup butter with 1 cup pureed avocado.
