5 Avocado Snack Ideas for National Snack Month

February is National Snack Month, and with some California Avocados from the 2015 crop already hitting store shelves, I thought it would be fun to put together some snack ideas that include my favorite fruit.

The criteria I used to land on these 5 avocado snack ideas include any of the following important snacking points:

  • Easy to make
  • Minimal prep time
  • Ready to take on-the-go
  • Doesn’t require a lot of processed ingredients (kept at a minimum)
  • Delicious, of course!


Here are 5 Avocado Snack recipes that would be super easy to implement this National Snack Month.

5 Avocado Snack Ideas

Halved Avocado Something you can take with you while on-the-go.

Halving an avocado and drizzling it with balsamic vinegar may be one of my favorite snacks. When balsamic isn’t available, simply sprinkling it with a little sea salt and pepper is a good alternative. Hot sauce, soy sauce or lemon are all great quick addition as well.

Avocado Zucchini Muffins Highly portable, but some prep work is required.

Avocado Zucchini Muffins just make sense from a snack point of view. They’re a great way to add fiber and protein into your diet, and because you can swap out the butter completely, you don’t have to feel quite as guilty when you eat three of them like I do… the mini ones of course! I like to add chopped up dried fruit to this recipe as well, for a little extra sugar in pre-workout snacks. As a side note, people always ask me how to keep their avocados from turning brown. The best answer = bake with them!

Stuffed Avocado Satisfying, with some prep work required.

Not to be confused with the simple halved avocado. Stuffing avocados with your favorite fruits and vegetables is a great way to increase your fruit and veggie intake. Cut your avocado in half and fill with pico de gallo, salsa, shrimp salad or as shown here with corn, blueberries and a drizzle of honey.

Avocado Dip Delicious, but a little more involved and less portable.

Simply pureeing avocado with ranch dressing or greek yogurt, lemon and a little garlic can go a long way. Enjoy with crackers, veggie sticks or even add it to tortillas and make some sandwich roll-ups with sliced turkey, lettuce and tomato. Requires somewhere cold to store, like a refrigerator, and it may be a bit messy to enjoy while on-the-go.


Avocado Toast Easy to make, no elaborate kitchen access required.

Because no avocado snack list would be complete without avocado on toast. And also because avocado on toast makes a great snack. If you know you will have access to a toaster, all you need to have to make avocado on toast is an avocado, a slice of bread and maybe some lemon and salt and pepper. There are of course other avocado snacking options, but I liked these because they’re simple, don’t require a lot of time to make and are smart alternatives to processed traditional snack foods like chips, candy or cookies.
