California Avocado season has ended.

2019 California Avocado Season Update

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year because that’s when California Avocado harvests begin to really ramp up!

It has been a wet winter here in California, which helps avocado tree health and fruit sizing. California Avocado growing regions received considerable rainfall early this season. As I type, many avocado trees here are still damp from recent rains. The weather has contributed to some harvest delays, but that just means more of the crop will be available later in the season. That’s a cool thing about avocados – though they mature on the tree they don’t actually ripen until after they are picked!

Though this year’s crop will be lighter in volume that last year, peak availability will be from April through July. Fans in California and neighboring states should be able to find California Avocados easily in season.

We here at the California Avocado Commission and the more than 3,000 California Avocado growers are looking forward to an excellent quality crop this season. We hope you’ll enjoy it with us and look for California Avocados next time you’re shopping or dining out!
